UNITED FOR COLITIS was set up by Jon McLeish, a 32 year old Scotsman who has had Ulcerative Colitis since 2007. Jon has strived to share his experiences with other sufferers and indeed raise awareness to those not previously aware of it.
It was after a meeting with fellow Colitis sufferer Darren Fletcher, that Jon decided to create a charity event to increase awareness of the illness and indeed raise money for research into finding a cure.
With Darren’s help, Jon was able to gather extraordinary support from Manchester United and many supportive companies and individuals in order to put this dinner on.
The theme of Crohn’s & Colitis UK in 2014 is Fatigue and this has strong resonance to the experiences of Colitis sufferers Darren Fletcher and Lewis Moody. They have experienced many highs and lows in their careers but dealing with this illness has been one of their biggest challenges. Naturally, they are keen to help others understand what they have gone through and prepare people for what to expect should they develop any of the symptoms.
Jon’s friends and family have been an incredible support through his journey so far but his wife Diana has literally gone the extra mile. She has to date raised over £4,000 via a 10k and a ½ marathon for Crohn’s & Colitis UK and has been a huge help to Jon.
It is hoped that we will inspire many others to continue to spread awareness of these illnesses and strive to find a cure.
