A Dream Debut

Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who helped make our inaugural United For Colitis dinner an overwhelming success.

The maiden UFC fundraiser was held at Old Trafford on 27 March 2014 and raised an astonishing amount just in excess of £100,000 which will be divided between the parent charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK, Manchester Children’s Hospital and Alder Hey Hospital to help patients affected by Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.

The star-studded audience in attendance included many of Manchester United’s players and their partners, as well as David Moyes, Sir Alex Ferguson, Brian Robson, Nicky Butt, Alex McLeish, Ray Wilkins, Olly Murs, Walter Smith and Neil Lennon. Sky Sports’ Jim White hosted the evening, while auctioneer Willie Paterson oversaw a thrilling charity auction, preceded by one lucky attendee winning a brand new Fiat 500.

Undoubtedly, the star of the show was 9-year-old Ellie Pugh, a sufferer of Crohn’s Disease whose story was shown to the audience in a moving video, before Ellie took to the stage to speak about her battle and received a standing ovation as a result.

Other speakers included Jon McLeish – the event’s founder – and David Barker, CEO of Crohn’s and Colitis UK, while Darren Fletcher and Lewis Moody MBE partook in an entertaining and informative question and answer session.

The staggering success of the inaugural United For Colitis event was just the start, however, and we plan to hold many more events through the remainder of the year and beyond, so watch this space. Thank you once again for your support.
